Miklas Meat Market donates $9,500 to Easterseals from Soup Sale

Easterseals Rehabilitation Center received a record-setting soup sale donation from Dave and Laura Rotriga, owners of Miklas Meat Market in Wheeling. 

"Thank you to the customers who bought over 800 quarts of soup and made additional donations that added up to a record-breaking $9,500 donation to help local children receive life-changing medical services at Easterseals!" Marketing Director Betsy Bethel-McFarland said. "We are blessed to have friends like the Rotriga family and their staff and customers."

The soup sale took place during the extra-cold month of January. A variety of soups were available for $10 a quart. Wedding soup, chicken rice, chicken noodle, vegetable beef, and broccoli and cheese were just a few of the varieties. The sale was publicized by local media outlets and on social media throughout the month. In addition to selling 800 quarts of soup, Miklas raised funds in other ways to bump up the donation to $9,500.

"We're just a little store, but we try our hardest," said Dave Rotriga. The Rotrigas' granddaughter, Julia, has received speech, occupational, and physical therapies at Easterseals for five years. Rotriga also serves on the nonprofit's Board of Directors.

"Easterseals has continuously operated for almost 90 years with the help of businesses like Miklas and individuals like the Rotrigas. We can't thank them enough," Bethel-McFarland said.
