Easterseals is seeking children's book donations to replenish its Little Free Library located in the center's lobby at 1305 National Road, Wheeling, West Virginia.
Easterseals Speech-Langauge Pathologists Kelli Shallcross and Leigh Mull set up the Little Free Library in 2024 to provide clients and their families with reading material while they wait for their therapy appointments. Anyone is invited to take home books to keep or return them if they wish.
Shallcross and Mull said Easterseals has plenty of chapter books for older children. The center needs donations of children's storybooks, picture books and board books.
"Books are our key to the world," Mull said when the local newspaper announced the Little Free Library at Easterseals. Reading promotes social skills, communication, bonding with parents and builds vocabulary.
“It’s convenient and accessible,” Marketing Director Betsy Bethel-McFarland said. “Some children might not be able to tolerate a library setting or parents may not have the time or energy to take them. But children already are coming for therapy every week.”
